2011 PKU International Cultural Festival kicks off

 

The 2011 PKU International Cultural Festival (ICF) has come out since late September. The theme of this year's ICF is going to be "Creativity and Our Future".

 

PKU alumnus Shu Chien receives US National Medal of Science

UCSD Prof. Shu Chien, a Chinese-American biologist, received the US National Medal of Science. The list of altogether 7 winners was announced by US President Barack Obama on Sept.27, 2011.

Prof. Justin Lin Yifu, senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank, is invited to deliver a keynote speech at the eighth annual meeting of Beijing Forum, which will be held in Beijing during Nov.4 and 6.

PKU School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) signed agreement for research cooperation with Japan’s Kitakyushu, and Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry, Science and Technology (FAIS) on Oct.19.

 

Nobel Economics Prize winner Amartya Sen joined Beijing Forum

Invited by the Beijing Forum academic board, Harvard Prof. Amartya Sen, the 1998 Nobel Economics Prize winner, agreed to be the consultant of the board, and accepted an interview during his visit to PKU on Oct.15.

 

BIMCR held International Conference: Perspectives in Mathematics

The Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research (BIMCR) formally moved to its new permanent location on Oct.18. Professor Wang En'ge, vice president and dean of PKU, attended the opening ceremony.


 

Prof. Mario Bunge donated academic works to PKU Library

Due to his reputation and academic contributions to the philosophy of science, Prof. Mario Bunge from McGill University was invited to PKU to give lectures. He attended the ceremony of donating academic works to the PKU Library.

 

Grand Opening of 2011 GEDC Conference at PKU

2011 Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC) conference opened at PKU Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center on Oct.21. Over 200 engineering school deans from more than 30 countries and regions gathered to discuss educational development.
