Peking University holds the 1st International Salon on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

Peking University, June 12, 2020: The 1st International Salon on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education was held online on June 8. The theme was “Inclusive Teaching and Learning Online”. A total of 46 teachers from Peking University participated in the salon through Zoom, and more than 400 teachers from over 40 other universities also participated in this online salon.
The keynote speakers were Professor Catherine Ross, executive director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Columbia University, and Professor Amanda Irvin, director of Faculty Programs and Services at the CTL. Professor Irvin first introduced the concept of inclusive teaching and the five principles in Guide for Inclusive Teaching at Columbia. Professor Ross focused on a variety of strategies to achieve the aim of the first and second principle of inclusive teaching.
Participants of the salon said that the specific strategies shared by the speakers in response to online teaching were very helpful, and they would like to put them into practice in the future.
The event was organized by Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning of PKU. It aimed to build a platform for university teachers in China to communicate with experts and scholars from world-class universities, learn the leading-edge theory, share results of their teaching practice, broaden their horizons and innovate their teaching patterns. There will be three more salons on June 15, 18 and 29.
