Peking University, Sept. 24, 2019: Hao Ping, President of Peking University, with his group visited Saint Petersburg in Russia, where they attended the 20th session of China-Russia Committee on Humanities Cooperation and the Roundtable Forum for Sino-Russian Comprehensive Universities’ Presidents and visited Saint Petersburg State University from September 16 to 17.
On the morning of September 16, the 20th session of China-Russia Committee on Humanities was held by Sun Chunlan, Chinese chairman of the committee and vice premier together with Golikova , Russian chairman of the committee and deputy prime minister. Witnessed by the two chairman, Hao Ping and Sadovnichy, President of Moscow State University, signed an agreement about establishing a youth union based on the Alliance of Sino-Russian Comprehensive Universities. This agreement aims to expand the partnership between Chinese and Russian comprehensive universities and strengthen the exchange and cooperation between Chinese and Russian students, young scholars and specialists.

On the afternoon, Hao Ping et al visited Saint Petersburg State University and were warmly welcomed by Kropachev, president of Saint Petersburg State University. After a trip around the campus, they had a meeting, in which Kropachev introduced the development of Saint Petersburg State University and expressed his hope to strengthen the cooperation with Peking University. Hao Ping congratulated on the achievements of Saint Petersburg State University and added that cooperation should be deepened in scientific research, talent cultivation and discipline construction.

On September 17, the Roundtable Forum for Sino-Russian Comprehensive Universities’ Presidents, hosted by Peking University and Moscow State University took place in St. Petersburg State University of Economics. Sun Chunlan and Golikova were present at the meeting and gave speeches respectively. Besides, 22 presidents from Chinese and Russian universities participated in the forum and made addresses. This forum, which was the highlight of the Alliance of Sino-Russian Comprehensive Universities in 2019, focused on “Chinese and Russian universities’ mission in technological innovation”. In the forum, participators heatedly discussed how universities of the two countries should face challenges and hold opportunities in the technological revolution brought by emerging technologies. Hao Ping introduced the programs carried out by the Alliance of Sino-Russian Comprehensive Universities since its establishment in two years ago. And he stated that in order to promote the two countries’ development in social, scientific, and economic areas, the united universities should act on the thinking laid out in the speeches of Russian and Chinese deputy prime ministers, cooperate to cultivate talents and build innovative teams.
