PKU leaders participate in the 4th University Social Responsibility Summit 2018

Peking University, Dec. 23, 2018: From December 2 to 4, the 4th University Social Responsibility Summit, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Haifa and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was held in Israel. The theme of the forum is “Universities’ Social Responsibility in Shaping a Future of Critical Hope”. Nearly 100 officials, scholars, community leaders and college students from all over the world attended the forum and exchanged views focusing on the role of universities in shaping a better future for mankind. Ye Jingyi, vice chairperson of Peking University Council attended the forum as a representative and made a keynote speech.

Together with Ye Jingyi, Zhang Jing, dean of Department of Sociology and Ma Fengzhi, director of Social Work of Department of Sociology also attended this forum. They introduced a series of social work carried out by Peking University in poverty-stricken counties in Shanxi Province and showed examples of rural governance in China, which had aroused strong interest of researchers from other countries.

In the project sharing session for students, Zhao Xuesong, a student representative from Law School, introduced Peking University's student social practice project -“Hongyan Project”. She pointed out that the "Hongyan Project" not only promoted Peking University-local authorities cooperation, but also enhanced the social responsibility of college students in a subtle way.

During the three-day summit, the representatives also visited the community served by The University of Haifa to learn about how the school promoted the community residents to build a harmonious home. At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, they viewed its project on health promotion for local Arabs.
