Peking University, May 28, 2012: Dr. Phil Szuromi, senior editor of Science magazine visited Peking University on May 22. He gave a speech called “Progress and Process in Scientific Publishing” to PKU faculties and students, explaining the review procedure of Science and considerations of submission. The symposium was presided by Pro. Wu Kai, Dean of Chemistry department.

For a start, Dr. Phil Szuromi introduced the publication history of Science magazine and the relevant procedure of submission and examination of papers. Afterwards, he explained the refereeing standard in details and provided dozens of specific suggestions on paper preparation. After the meeting, Dr Phil Szuromi developed lively exchanges with the attendees on issues and suggestions they were interested in. He also visited the laboratories of School of Physics and College of Molecular Engineering, carrying on the thorough exchange with PKU researchers.

Dr. Phil Szuromi received his PhD in California Institute of Technology in 1985. He has been working for Science for 26 years since 1986, being responsible now for submission of  papers on Chemistry, Physics and Materials science.
