Peking University and Free University of Berlin hold conference to advance cooperation

Peking University, March 11, 2021: The Confucius Institute at the Free University of Berlin, together with the Center for International Higher Education at Peking University (PKU-CIHE) and the Free University of Berlin Alumni Association, held an online conference with the theme “Sino-German Academic and Cultural Cooperation: Development, Opportunities and  Challenge” on February 25 and 26.

Professor Verena Blechinger-Talcott, vice president of the Free University of Berlin, delivered the opening speech. She spoke highly of the friendly partnership and academic exchanges between the Free University of Berlin and Peking University over the past 40 years and more. She also regarded the Confucius Institute as a successful case study of cooperation between the two universities.

Based on their respective work, speakers gave detailed reports on the collaboration between China and Germany in education and technology in the past ten years and more, analyzed the current challenges facing Germany's cooperation with China, and shared their rich experience regarding Sino-German partnership. Participants agreed that it is necessary for the Confucius Institute at the Free University of Berlin to organize this conference and suggested some follow-up activities to strengthen the bonds between experts and scholars from both sides. The participants expressed that they would continue to promote non-governmental ties between China and Germany and contribute to enhancing understanding and cooperation.

The conference also attracted an audience of nearly 100 from Germany and China, many of whom are scholars and research managers and they had lively interactions with the speakers.
