Sep 11, 2020
Peking University, September 11, 2020: On September 7, the 18th Conference on International Exchange of Professionals kicked off via remote live streaming. As an important event of China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation, this year’s conference is themed on China-Russia cooperation on scientific and technological innovation.
Peking University has a long history of collaboration with Russia. In this conference, Zhang Pingwen, vice president of Peking University, gave a keynote speech that focuses on flagship programs jointly initiated by Peking University and Moscow State University, e.g. Sino-Russian Comprehensive University Alliance and China-Russia Mathematics Center.

Launched in June 2020, China-Russia Mathematics Center meets the needs of gathering outstanding experts and scholars to train world-class mathematical talents and accelerating the development of mathematical disciplines in both countries. It also plays an important role in promoting the high-level comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia in the new era.
The Center, together with School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University, is now jointly applying to join “Plan 111” (Program of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities) to further introduce Russian talents to China and build a world-level academic group to promote high-level and intensive exchanges and cooperation between Peking University and Moscow State University.
Discussion with Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Moscow State University
Apart from the China-Russia Mathematics Center, in recent years, Peking University has also developed good cooperative relationship with Russia in many other fields.
In 2017, 14 Russian professors took part in the Joint China-France-Russia Symposium on Probability Theory hosted by Peking University; In 2018, Moscow State University was active in the 1st Mathematics Summer School for International Undergraduates that was held at Peking University, during which four Russian professors made presentations.
Peking University also participated in many high-level mathematics conferences held by Russia, such as the 3rd BRICS Mathematics Conference, the International Conference “Geometry Days in Novosibirsk — 2019”, and the 2nd China-Russia Joint Conference on Mathematics.
Offering courses and arranging seminars are good ways to gather talents and strengthen cooperation. In the autumn semester of 2019, three professors from Moscow State University were invited to deliver three courses at Peking University. And since April 24, 2020, School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University and Novosibirsk State University have initiated a joint series of seminars called “Beijing-Novosibirsk Seminar on Geometry and Mathematical Physics”, and more than 10 mathematicians have been invited to make presentations on the seminars.
These academic communications promote in-depth cooperation and has fostered a good relationship between Peking University and Russian universities and research institutes.
