Peking University, October 18, 2019: The first of the Lecture Series on Legal Practice was held at PKU Overseas Exchange Center on December 18. Launched by the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of China Central Committee and the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2019, the lecture series will be held in 16 renowned law schools while PKU is its first stop.
Qiu Shuiping, council chairman of PKU, hosted the lecture. Chen Yixin, secretary general of the commission, attended the lecture with other senior officials. It has drawn more than 300 students and teachers from PKU Law school.
Zhang Jun, procurator-general of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, delivered a keynote speech entitled “The Superiority of the Socialist Judicial System with Chinese characteristics: From a Social Development and Change Perspective”. He pointed out that as conditions vary from country to country, it is up to each country itself to explore the best judicial system. As for China, it has found a path suited to its reality—the socialist judicial system with Chinese characteristics. In addition, China has accumulated rich experience in its legal practice. This judicial system is superior because it best suits to the country’s national conditions, and can be accepted and supported by its people.
The keynote speech was followed by a question-and-answer session. Zhou Yuansong, a graduate student of law school, spoke highly of the lecture which deepened his understanding of the Chinese Judicial System.
