Peking University, Oct. 18, 2019: On Oct. 14, 2019, supported by both ASEAN-China Centre and Peking University, the launching ceremony of China-ASEAN University Consortium on Medicine and Health was held in PKU, and a joint declaration was published in the founding conference. Fang Jun, deputy director-general of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education, Zhan Qimin, executive vice president of PKU and president of PKU Health Science Center, and Chen Dehai, secretary-general of ASEAN-China Centre attended and addressed in the conference. Members from 42 universities and medical schools in China and ASEAN countries also were present at the inaugural meeting.
The founding conference
The consortium, led by the Peking University Health Science Center, aims at promoting regional and global medical science and public health through in-depth exchanges and collaboration. It will serve as a platform for faculty from both China and ASEAN members to learn from each other and improve medical education and practice.
The attendees believed that the China-ASEAN University Consortium on Medicine and Health would be a valuable platform for a win-win partnership. Fang Jun expressed his congratulations on its founding and his hopes for a deepened China-ASEAN medical and health care cooperation, through which the condition of people’s health could be improved and the regional or even global development in education and health could be further promoted.

Chen Dehai pointed out in his speech that members of this medicine and health alliance would undoubtedly make the best of the platform to forge a closer China-ASEAN community of a shared future. Zhan Qimin insisted that we should create multilateral cooperation mechanisms, innovate cooperation modes, and jointly make regional contributions to the global health under the instruction of the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit.

Fang Jun, Chen Dehai and Zhan Qimin, on behalf of Chinese universities, and Banchong Mahaisavariya, president of Mahidol University in Thailand and on behalf of ASEAN universities, jointly inaugurated the consortium. At the round table meeting held in the afternoon, the council continued to discuss the charter and future plans of China-ASEAN University Consortium on Medicine and Health.
