Outstanding Contributors to China’s Reform and Opening-up series

Peking University, Dec. 28, 2018: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) plans to honor 100 outstanding individuals who have made great contributions to China’s reform and opening-up. Three PKU teachers, Wang Xuan, Li Yining, and Justin Yifu Lin, were on the list, along with eight PKU alumni, Yu Min, Wang Jiafu, Robin Li  Yanhong, Zou Bihua, Hu Fuming, Zhong Nanshan, Tu Youyou and Fan Jinshi.


Robin Li Yanhong (1968 - ) is the co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Baidu, Inc. He oversees the company's overall strategy and business operations. Robin received a Bachelor of Science degree in information management from Peking University in 1991, and a Master of Science degree in computer science from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1994. In the 1990s, Robin pioneered in-depth research on search engine technology and received a US patent for a system of hyperlink analysis in 1999. In 2000, he returned to China and founded Baidu, which is now the world's second largest independent search engine and the largest Chinese search engine. He puts an emphasis on research into AI technologies, and is committed to deepening the integration of AI and big data technologies with traditional fields such as manufacturing, automobile, education, finance, life services and social governance. Robin is a "1000 Talent" National Distinguished Expert and has received honors including "CCTV Key Figure in China's Economy," "The Top 30 Figures in China's 30 Years of Reform," "Ten IT Leaders," and many others.
