Peking University, Nov 22, 2018: From November 16 to 17, the 4th China Graduate Education Forum was held in Beijing Xijiao,The forum was aimed at commemorating the 40th anniversary of reviving graduate education in China, discussing subsistent problems and challenges, and looking forward to a better future.

The opening ceremony was held on November 16. Zhu Zhiwen, vice minister of education, gave a report and conveyed the greeting, congratulation, and expectation from Sun Chunlan, vice premier of the State Council. Zhu stressed that Chinese graduate education should be carried out under the guideline of Xi Jinping’s thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics; and the educators should deeply implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of CPC and National Education Conference.

Gong Qihuang, vice president of Peking University, introduced the centurial history of PKU graduate education, elaborated PKU’s thoughts on development in the new era, and emphasized the duty, path, keys, and targets of PKU graduate education. Gong illustrated PKU’s reforms in perfecting resource allocation, comprehensive ability cultivation, international training, and harmonious teacher-student relationships.
Julia Kent, vice president of the Council of Graduate Schools, made an address on “graduates’ preparation for future challenges” and highlighted the significance of cross-boundary learning and practice. She exchanged views and gifts with Zhang Dongxiao, executive deputy dean of graduate school.
The forum consisted of six parallel sessions. On the afternoon of November 16, Zhang Dongxiao organized the sub-forum for principals and deans. Guest speakers from different countries shared their latest findings and fresh insights regarding the actuality and future of graduate education in the session. On the morning of November 17, Professor Yuan Ming, dean of Yenching Academy, illustrated Yenching Academy’s explorations in cross-cultural communication on the sub-forum of “the International communication and cooperation of graduate education.”
The other 4 sub-forums focused on the innovations in doctoral education, the assessment of teaching quality, academic morals, and professional education.
The forum attracted over 300 attendees. Presidents from more than 30 universities and experts of graduate education participated and shared their ideas.
