Peking University holds the Public Memorial Ceremony on Qingming

Peking University, April 4, 2019: PKU Council Chairman Qiu Shuiping, school leaders and other honorable guests attended the public memorial ceremony at Jing Yuan on Qingming to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs. More than150 people participated in the ceremony.

Qing Ming, or Tomb Sweeping Day, is a traditional public holiday celebrated by ethnic Chinese. The Qingming Public Memorial Ceremony is a brand activity that constitutes the patriotic education of PKU. That the year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of PRC and the 100th  anniversary of the May Fourth Movement renders special significance to this year’s activity. 


The ceremony started at 9 a.m., during which the guests, along with PKU teachers and students, sang the National Anthem and mourned for the revolutionary martyrs in solemn silence, bowing and presenting bouquets in front of the monuments. The student representatives recited an original poetry Praise for pine trees, voicing their determination and obligation for Peking University to carry forward the May fourth spirits and to make contributions for the nation. 

All attendees 
presented banners to the Youth Volunteer Group for Cultural Relics Protection and expressed their expectation and encouragement then.


Themed activities were held at Law school and School of Archaeology and Museology. The students from these schools discussed and explored the meaning of patriotic spirit by learning the heroic deeds of outstanding alumni, Zou Bihua, Chai Shengfang and Fan Jinshi. 

The Public Memorial Ceremony, along with other patriotic activities, firmed up the determination of PKU youth to contribute to the rejuvenation of  China.
