PKU CCGA Holds Seminar on “Chinese Model“
Dec 24, 2008

Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 23rd, 2008: The seminar “The 60 years of People's Republic of China and Chinese Model” was held for the 30th anniversary of “reform and opening-up” by the Center for Chinese and Global Affairs (CCGA) in Peking University on December 20. More than 50 experts, including Wang Shaoguang, Hu Angang, Wang Hui, Huang Ping, Zhang Jing, Li Qiang, Wen Tiejun, Qiang Shigong, Kang Xiaoguang, Shi Zhiyu, He Xuefeng, Fang Ning, Li Changping, Zhang Musheng and Gao Liang, discussed on “Chinese Model” in the seminar.

Wu Zhipan, deputy party secretary of PKU attended the seminar. He pointed out that we had made so great achievements in the past 60 years that no one could deny, and thus should have full confidence in the “Chinese Model”.

In Wu Zhipan’s view, the reason why China was able to shake off poverty and weakness rapidly, and re-establish the identity of a great country on the international stage was because it had unswervingly taken the socialist road with Chinese characteristics, had open-minded Chinese civilization and strong learning ability. China's reform and opening up, had not only profoundly changed the face of the country, but also affected the world’s situation, and it would make a greater contribution to the progress of human civilization.

Xu Zhenzhou, deputy director of Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee and vice president of the Institute of International Relations of PKU, attended the seminar and delivered a speech. When talking about the purpose of the seminar, Pan Wei, director of CCGA said that China had surprised the world by its progress with a unique path of development over the past decades, so that "Chinese Model" had been all-too-apparent. The seminar was held to promote the discussion and summary of "China Model" and thus promote the rise of "Chinese School" in international academic circles. The seminar had collected a large number of high-quality papers, which would be published in book form next year and would be published abroad in English.

There are seven sessions discussing on five topics, including China's unique social model, unique economic model, unique political model, unique way of thinking, and organic links among China's political, economic, social and ideological models, for two days in the seminar.

Representatives from more than 30 media, such as "Southern Weekend" and "21st Century Business Herald" also attended the seminar.
