Peking University, Beijing, May 19, 2009: On the morning of May 17th, the 25th Graduate Student Congress of Peking University was held in the Qiulin Lecture Hall of the International Studies School Building in Peking University. It was attended by over 300 graduate students from the main campus, the Health Science Center and Shenzhen Graduate School.
During the congress, new members of the Executive Committee, they are: Zhang Miaomiao, Yin Jun, Wang Xiaolong, Xiao Da, Qi Jiahong, Yang Lei, and Liao Kaiju, among whom Zhang Miaomiao, of the School of Foreign Languages, was elected as chairwoman of the presidium.
President Zhou Qifeng also attended the congress and delivered a speech. He spoke highly of the work done by the Graduate Student Union, and said that the graduate students played an important role in improving the research, education and social services of the University. He encouraged graduate students not only to take pains to improve their academic learning, but also to shoulder their social responsibilities, to serve the country and people through various social and voluntary practices. He also hoped that the Graduate Union would stick to the principle of "self-education, self-management, and self-service," and continue to serve the graduate students and protect their proper rights.
On the day before the Congress was held, the 30th Mid-Term Adjustment Meeting of the Student Union of Peking University was held. Yu Zhou, Weng Geng, Hua Yichen, Li Xinyu, Liu Xiaoyin, Hua Ruojun, and Gao Chuanju were elected as members of the Presidium, with Yu Zhou as chairman.
