Peking University, Apr. 13, 2013: Sir David Wallace, Master of Churchill College, University of Cambridge visited Peking University (PKU) on April 10, 2013. PKU Executive Vice President Li Yansong on behalf of PKU welcomed the guest, and the two sides exchanged views on international communication, especially cooperation between the two universities.

At the beginning of the reception, Professor Li Yansong reviewed the development of the friendship between Churchill College and PKU. He pointed out that credit to the Wing Yip Bursaries, several PKU students have had the opportunity to study at and obtain master’s degree from Churchill College, which is helpful for their personal development. On that point, Churchill College said that the Wing Yip Bursaries will be provided for another five years and benefit more students.

Sir David Wallace expressed the willingness to further cooperate with PKU, mainly in having more student exchange programs, which in his view would broaden students’ horizons and deepen their understanding at the same time.

After that, Professor Li introduced the Beijing Forum held last autumn in detail, calling for more cooperation in the academic field.

Sir Wallace mentioned that he had visited China for several times, and everyone present was taken aback by the fluency of his Chinese. “Every Chinese I met is my teacher in learning Chinese,” explained Wallace with a smile.

Background:

First built in 1958, Churchill College focused especially on science, engineering and technology. Churchill College has some 450 undergraduates, 280 postgraduates, 150 Fellows and 140 staff, and it is sustained by links with over 7000 alumni throughout the world now.
