Peking University, October 14, 2019: From September 21st to 22nd, the 14th international conference on "Social Governance and Public Policy: Comparative Studies on East Asia" was held at the South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. The conference was organized by Institute of State Governance Studies, Peking University, School of Government, Sun Yat-sen University, Co-innovation Center for State Governance, and Sungkyunkwan University. More than 50 experts and scholars from Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, Tsinghua University, the University of Melbourne and other universities and scientific research institutions at home and abroad attended the meeting.

The opening ceremony
The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Wang Qing from the School of Government, Sun Yat-Sen University. Professor Tan Ankui, dean of School of Government, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Yan Jirong, deputy dean of Institute of State Governance Studies, Peking University and other professors successively delivered speeches.
In the keynote speech part, six professors delivered their speeches. Professor Yan Jirong from the utilitarian perspective re-examined a series of problems in today's social governance in China; Professor Pookong Kee, director of the Asia Institute, University of Melbourne, analyzed the governance of multicultural society based on the comparison between Australia and East Asian countries; Professor Xiao Bin from School of Government, Sun Yat-sen University, analyzed the historical context and the logic of social governance in China, and proposed the economic logic and political logic of social governance. The keynote speeches of the six professors are high-profile and thought-provoking.
The closing ceremony of the conference was hosted by Professor Wang Qing. Professor Heeok Lee from Sungkyunkwan University, Professor Yang Lihua from Peking University, and Professor Liu Junqiang from Sun Yat-sen University respectively made closing remarks

Social governance and public policy are issues of common concern to political science and public management scholars. In this conference, the participating scholars conducted in-depth discussions in this field, which promoted the theoretical dialogue and in-depth exchanges between the academic circles and achieved fruitful results.
