Peking University, Mar. 21, 2019: In a faculty meeting held on March 15, 2019, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKUSZ) announced the appointment of Zhan Qimin as the school’s new dean.
At the meeting, Huo Xiaodan, executive deputy director of Organization Department of Peking University (PKU), announced the appointment decision. Huo explained that the appointment was based on the development needs of the school. The decision reflected the fact that PKU places high importance on PKUSZ and on the cooperation between the university and Shenzhen. “When Zhan Qimin is away from Shenzhen for his duties at PKU and Peking University Health Science Center, Yang Zhen, vice dean of PKUSZ, will preside over the daily administrative work of the school,” said Huo.
Li Zhuowen, deputy secretary-general of Shenzhen Municipal Government, welcomed the leadership of PKU on behalf of Vice Mayor Wang Lixin. Li talked about the success of the cooperation between the city and the school since 2001. Li assured the continual support by Shenzhen Municipal Government for PKUSZ. The city of Shenzhen, when facing the opportunities created by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, looks forward to working with PKU to explore new possibilities in education reform, talents training, and institutional innovation, Li said.
Zhan Qimin expressed his gratitude to PKU and PKUSZ for their trust, to Shenzhen for their support, and to his predecessor and the leadership of the school for their contributions. Looking to the future, Zhan spoke of his determination to work with all faculty members and students of PKUSZ and his ambition of building the school to an international campus, being the frontline of higher education reform, and growing to be the leader of higher education and innovation in Shenzhen.
