Peking University, Nov. 5, 2018: Professor Huang Yiping from National School of Development was named as a member of the External Advisory Group on Surveillance, International Monetary Fund (IMF).
On October 30th, 2018, Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, announced that two external advisory groups, consisting of experts in the field of economy, finance and public policy, would be established to provide IMF with information support for its 2020 Comprehensive Surveillance Review (CSR). CSR is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of IMF in monitoring global economic development and offering suggestions to IMF’s 189 member countries.
Christine Lagarde said that IMF was really honored to have these two groups of professionals to support CSR. One is External Advisory Group on Digital Technology , which consists of leading thinkers and practitioners experienced in revolutionary industries.
The other one is External Advisory Group on Surveillance composed of thought leaders. They will provide IMF with overall guidance to cope with challenges in surveillance work, and help IMF to formulate new policies, so as to promote economic prosperity and maintain global economic stability.
To be specific, the External Advisory Group on Surveillance will conduct an independent surveillance on staff analysis. They will communicate CSR’s priorities and strategic direction with IMF’s staff, and then announce the new findings and preliminary suggestions. The Group’s independent recommendations will be ultimately submitted to IMF’s Executive Board and then the Board can finalize IMF’s surveillance priorities.
