Peking University, Nov. 12, 2018: On November 9th and 10th, 2018, the Symposium on “Review and Prospect of Environmental Politics in China" was held at Shandong University. Approximately 50 scholars in the field of environmental politics attended the symposium.

On the first topic of “establishments and challenges of the environmental politics in China’s new century”, Professor Huan Qingzhi of Peking University mentioned that Environmental Politics, as a discipline in environmental humanities and social sciences, has been already established. However, its development still needs to be objectively considered from many aspects.

On the topics of
“constructions and innovations of the discourse on environmental politics in the new era” and “constructive influence of the concept of socialist ecological civilization in environmental governance”, Professor Cao Shunxian of Nanjing Forestry University concluded that these new ideas should be gradually absorbed into the discourse of environmental politics.

On the topics of “international climate politics and China’s leading influence” and “reflection of global environmental governance and new progress in the integration of ‘red’ and ‘green’”, Associate Professor Wang Xuedong of Sun Yat-Sen University emphasized that we must pay attention to how to be a leader in the global discourse of international climate change response so that China can play the leading role in the future climate change negotiations.

During the closing ceremony,
Huan summarized the latest progress in the study of environmental politics in China and believed that there would be more topics or ideas which could foster new developments in environmental politics in the next few years.
