Forum for the Modernization of Governance held

Peking University, Nov. 4, 2018: On the morning of November 3rd, 2018, the opening ceremony of the 1st Forum for the Modernization of Governance was held in Sunshine Hall of Yingjie Overseas Exchanges Center, whose theme is multi-governance in the era of globalization. As a national academic forum, it is organized by School of Government, Peking University and aims to conduct in-depth discussions on the basic theories, general laws and development trends of the modernization of governance from a multi-disciplinary perspective.


Opening Ceremony


Professor Yu Keping, dean of School of Government, Peking University, expressed his warm welcome to nearly 400 guests and scholars, including Lin Jianhua, deputy director of the National People's Congress Foreign Affairs Committee, Han Qide, honorary chairman of China Association for Science and Technology.

Jiang Bixin, president of China Behavior Law Association delivered a keynote speech related to multi-governance model. He particularly emphasized that in the Internet era, modern science and technology, such as information, digitalization and cloud computing technology, can power multi-governance.

Another keynote speaker, Vladimir Yakunin, who is known as the founding president of the World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations”, delivered a speech titled "Global Governance and International Politics". He pointed out that it is hard and unrealistic to establish Western-style democracy in Central Asia. He believed that it is necessary to recognize the complexities of modern world, and promote understanding and conversation.

After the opening ceremony, six sub-forums were held, as well as the President Forum and the book launch of Governance Reform in China (1978-2018).
