Peking University, Feb. 25, 2013: Recently, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has released the list of the 2013 Sloan Fellowships winners. Among the 23 winners in chemistry, four of them are Chinese researchers and they are all PKU alumni from College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering. They are: Hairong Guan (Class 1996), Associate Professor at University of Cincinnati; Wei Zhang (Class 1996), Assistant Professor at University of Colorado, Boulder; Wen Li (Class 1996), Assistant Professor at Wayne State University; Wei Min (Class 1999), Associate Professor at Columbia University. Jianfeng Lu, Assistant Professor at Duke University, who also graduated from PKU, is a Sloan Fellowships winner in math.

The Sloan Fellowships this year are awarded to 126 young scholars coming from 56 U.S. and Canadian universities, covering research fields such as chemistry, molecular biology, computer science, economics, math, neuroscience, physics and ocean sciences.

The Sloan Research Fellowships are awarded annually by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation since 1955 to "provide support and recognition to early-career scientists and scholars". Fellowships were initially awarded in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Awards were later added in neuroscience (1972), economics (1980), computer science (1993), and computational and evolutionary molecular biology (2002).
