In 2017, PKU accepted the invitation of hosting the 42nd ACM-ICPC World Finals with Children and Youth Science Center of CAST (CYSC) from ICPC at the closing ceremony of 41st ACM-ICPC World Finals. This is the third time China has hosted ACM-ICPC World Finals after 2005 and 2010. In the meantime, the event marks the beginning of the PKU 120th anniversary serial events.
Besides setting up the main arena, PKU Gymnasium, preparatory work including final rehearsal and preparing the PKU Hall for a concert has also been finished.
Founded in 1970, the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is an annual global programming competition held yearly by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The contest aims to foster creativity, teamwork, and innovation in building new software programs, and tests students’ ability to perform under pressure.
ACM-ICPC has become the most influential computer science competition for university students in the world after 40-year’s development, and is known as the Olympics in the field of computer and software. In the 2017 competition, more than 46000 contestants from nearly 3000 higher education institutions of 6 continents, 103 countries and regions took part in the regional preselection. 133 delegations passed the selection and then joined the international final, including 18 delegations from institutions of China mainland, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
