[NPC & CPPCC 2018] PKU President: Actively Promoting the Integration with Zhongguancun Science City

Peking University, March 16, 2018: On March 9, the third plenary meeting of the Beijing delegation of the National People's Congress (NPC) was open to Chinese and foreign media. While more than 100 reporters attended the news conference, a reporter from the Beijing News asked Lin Jianhua, deputy to the National People’s Congress, also president of PKU, what the measures PKU would take to get involved in construction of the national cultural center and technological innovation center in Beijing.
Lin answered that to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristic, universities are to integrate their development into the country’s. Lin said the country’s development has provided universities with resources and problem-solving opportunities. According to Lin, universities should try to solve Chinese economic issues and so on by using their academic abilities. Lin also said that building “four centers” in Beijing is in line with the development of universities, so PKU must seize this opportunity to make more achievements.
Lin said that PKU had been making great efforts to serve Beijing, integrate into Zhongguancun Science City, and make more platforms for transformation of scientific and technological achievements around PKU. Lin also said that one of the aims of PKU is to provide better academic atmosphere and environment for professors and students so that they can focus on teaching and research. In addition, Peking University also has a sense of mission, aiming to become a competitive contributor to the development of Beijing city as well as the country.
