PekingUniversity, Beijing, Dec. 18. 2008: The unveiling ceremony of Peking University (PKU) International Intellectual Property Program (IIPP) and the “Intellectual Property-Opportunities and Challenges in the New Economic Era” Seminar were both held on December 17 in PKU.
Mr. Luo Haocai, former Vice Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Tian Lipu, Director of National Intellectual Property Office, Mr. Li Jianchang, Director of Trademark Office of State Administration For Industry & Commerce, Mr. Liu Yazun, Director of Investment Promotion Agency of Ministry of Commerce, Ms. Xu Fanying, Executive Director of the HwaYing Education and Culture Foundation, Mr. Huang Jinfu, Vice Chairman of China Patent Agent (HK) Ltd., Prof. Ling Jianhuan, Executive Vice President of PKU, and Prof. Zhu Suli, Dean of PKU Law School attended the ceremony which was emceed by Prof. Zhang Guoyou, Vice President of PKU.
The PKU IIPP is founded by PKU and Asia Pacific Legal Institute (APLI) in order to implement the requirements of the “StrategicOutline of Intellectual Property”, issued in June by the government, based on the advantages of PKU as a comprehensive university and the rich academic resources at home and abroad. The outline has been made in view of the significance of the intellectual property system in the implementation of the national innovative strategy. The outline also requires to building a number of national intellectual property training foundations to train professionals in this field.
The IIPP will take an interdisciplinary and cross-regional training model and seek for the cooperation in international organizations of intellectual property, regional offices, government departments, academic groups, and industries. The aims of the IIPP are to be a national training base of high-level professionals in the intellectual property field and a world-level intellectual property academic institute and to improve the intellectual property system of both China and world. The academic group of the IIPP, composed of the world-level intellectual property experts, will operate the IIPP through academic research, international academic exchanges and cooperation, related education and training, and professional consultation.
Mr. Luo Haocai and Prof. Ling Jianhuan unveiled brand together in the ceremony, and delivered letters of appointment to the leaders of the IIPP. Mr. Francis Gurry, Director General World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also sent a congratulatory letter. After the ceremony, the experts from both home and abroad, government officers, related people, and students had warm discussions on the topic of “Intellectual Property-Opportunities and Challenges in the New Economic Era”.
