Peking University, April 11, 2017: The 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva was held at Palexpo, Geneva, Switzerland, from March 29 to April 2, 2017. At the exhibition, which is largest invention exhibition in the world, “the new generation of remote sensing software and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) imaging system based on the APCP (Aerospace Polar-Coordinate Photogrammetry) theory”, invented collaboratively by teams led by Professor Yan Lei from Peking University and Professor Sun Shanlin from Guilin University of Aerospace Technology, won the “Gold Medal with the congratulations of the jury”, which is the highest honor in the exhibition.

Certificate of the award
The CCCP (Close-range Cartesian-Coordinate Photogrammetry), originating in Germany, has a history of 160 years. With the development of digital technologies in aerospace, sparse array based on the cartesian coordinate system falls short at calculating the accurate figures. It took Yan’s group 11 years to develop the APCP theory. With the new theory, efficiency, accuracy and anti-error sensitivity are improved by one to three orders of magnitude, forming a new remote sensing image processing in photogrammetry. Based on the APCP theory, Yan’s group developed the new remote sensing software and UAV imaging system.

Background Information: The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, founded in 1973 by the Swiss Federal Government, the City Government of Geneva and the World Intellectual Property Organization, is one of the oldest invention exhibitions on a large scale. During the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, inventors from all over the world showcased new inventions, introduced novel technology and voiced their innovative ideas to an audience of over 50,000. This year, the exhibition displayed 1000 new inventions from 725 exhibitors. Ninety-seven items coming from China were among these inventions.
