Peking University, Dec 22, 2016: On December 10 and 11, the 11th Confucius Institute Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The theme of this conference is ‘creativity, cooperation, tolerance and sharing’. Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended this conference.
Liu Yandong addressed that, according to President Xi Jinpin, Confucius Institute belongs to China, as well as the whole world. China and foreign countries have worked together to develop Confucius Institute since it was established. Currently there are 511 Confucius institutes and 1073 classes in total in 140 countries around the world. It has become a significant bridge of Chinese culture communication and an important window for the world to know and cooperate with China.

In the conference, Cairo University’s Confucius Institute was awarded as the best Confucius Institute in 2016. Moreover, Liu gave recognition of “the Training Plan” of the Confucius Institute at London University (co-established with Peking University).
Li Yansong, vice president of Peking University and Xia Hongwei, director of office of international relations, attended the conference and met with Chinese deans of cooperated Confucius Institutes with Peking University. Li Yansong spoke highly of their achievements in 2016 and said that in such good conditions, Confucius Institute should work further on promoting mutual cultural communication between China and foreign countries to realize its sustainable development.
