Peking University, March 22, 2021: On February 16, the International Organization of Chinese Physicists and Astronomers (OCPA) awarded Achievement in Asia Award (AAA Robert T. Poe Prize) to Dr. Jiang Ying, Boya distinguished professor, International Center for Quantum Materials, School of Physics, Peking University, for “his groundbreaking experimental research on low-dimensional water and ice.” To be specific, he has pioneered the hydrogen-sensitive scanning probe microscopy (SPM) of water molecules, which opens up the possibility of probing the hydrogen-bonding interaction and the quantum effects of hydrogen at atomic scale.
The OCPA is a nonpolitical, professional, not-for-profit, tax exempt organization chartered in the State of New York in June 1990. The chartered goals of the organization are to promote physics and astronomy research in general and to promote recognition of achievements by ethnic Chinese physicists and astronomers in particular. The OCPA membership includes Nobel Laureates, a Field Medalist, members of the National Academy as well as many outstanding leaders of physics/astronomy research today. The AAA, established in 1993, is presented annually to a physicist/astronomer (or a team of Physicists/astronomers) of Chinese ethnicity working in Asia who has (have) made outstanding contributions in physics or astronomy.
Professor Jiang received his Ph.D. from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2008. After working as a Postdoctoral Associate in University of California, Irvine (2008-2010), he joined International Center for Quantum Materials, Peking University as a tenure-track assistant professor, and was promoted to a full professor in 2018. Professor Jiang was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) in 2019. Professor Jiang’s research fields are condensed matter physics and chemical physics. He is an expert in the development of innovative SPM with ultrahigh sensitivity and resolution, and focused on the atomic-scale properties of single molecules and low-dimensional materials.
Professor Jiang has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers, including 2 in Science, 5 in Nature, and 10 in Nature Journals. His research works were selected twice as Top-ten Science Advances in China (2016, 2018). Selected awards include Nishina Asia Award (2020), Leading Innovative Talent in Science and Technology from Central Chinese Government (2019), Science and Technology Award for Chinese Youth from China Association for Science and Technology (2018), Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Award (2018), Distinguished Young Scholars from Natural Science Foundation of China (2017). Professor Jiang serves on the Editorial Boards or Editorial Advisory Boards of Journal of Chemical Physics, Advanced Quantum Technologies, Chemical Physics, Chinese Physics Letters, etc.
