Peking University. Beijing. Nov. 12th, 2008: For the purpose of reinforcing the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese universities and other world leading universities in the field of arts education, and promoting the disciplinary construction of arts education, the international seminar of arts education in universities was held on the morning of Nov. 11th, 2008, in Yingjie Exchange Center, PKU. The seminar is co-organized by the School of Arts, PKU and the Faculty of Arts, York University (Canada). Scholars and experts from the Faculty of Arts, York University, have been invited as well as professors and university administrators from a dozen of domestic universities. During the two-day seminar, participants will discuss the practices and the trend of development of the arts education in universities and try to picture the blueprint of its development in 21st century.
The seminar mainly focuses on three topics: the current practices and the trend of development of arts education in universities home and abroad, the curriculum construction of arts education in universities, and the relation between arts education and education for all-around development. The seminar was organized with the hope of strengthening the cooperation between China and western countries in arts education and advancing Chinese arts education to be better structured and more international. This seminar marks a very important beginning of the research of the goal and development strategy of arts education in higher institutions in China. As the solid platform of exchanges and communication in arts education between domestic and overseas renowned universities, the seminar will exert far-reaching influence upon the fundamental layout and the reform of practices of arts education in China.
