Peking University, Oct. 10, 2013: The “green web” action, aiming to further cleanse the Internet environment, launched in Beijing on Sep 29th. Zhang Qingxiong, a member of Weiming Club and student from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, attended the opening ceremony and gave a speech on behalf of university students.
Based on Weiming BBS (the BBS for PKU students), Weiming Club, a student society, aims to publicize the positive role of the Internet by carrying out several off-line activities. In Zhang’s keynote speech, combining the studying life with working experience in Weiming Club, he expressed his thought on the improvement of net environment and introduced Weiming Club’s innovation in building up the network culture on campus. He also inspired the youths to be a qualified citizen in the era of information.
Peking University pays close attention to campus network management by taking advantage of the network’s role in personnel training and university development. As the chief department of campus network, Office of Youth Studies has explored a forward-looking working approach:
-- Upgrade the websites and open an official micro-blog to promote the transition of Weiming BBS and further define its position as the “information platform, cultural community and online home”;
-- Integrate the resources online and offline by helping student societies hold web-themed activities;
-- Design teaching plans or compile textbooks to cultivate the awareness of self-discipline
The innovation of PKU campus website received the recognition from the related department. On Sep 30th, Minister Yuan Guiren from the Ministry of Education gave his high evaluation to the PKU campus website’s transition in his reply to Weiming BBS users
Dubbed “Green Web”, the campaign is jointly initiated by the State Internet Information Office, the Ministry of Education, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the All-China Women's Federation.
