PekingUniversity, Beijing, March 5, 2009: On the evening of February 14th, the Second National University Art Show successfully ended in Nanjing. Peking University’s choir and dance group both won the first prizes in their respective performances.
This national event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial Government. Between February 8th and 14th, teams from 31 regions including over 4500 university students, gave 168 performances in vocal music, dance, instrumental music and drama. PKU choir and dance group, consisting of over 60 students, represented the Beijing city in this year’s National University Art Show.
For this year’s competition, PKU student choir prepared Deconstructing Johann, and The Harvest Tune, while the dance group prepared an original dance Foot Trails, both awarded with the first prizes. The art group also participated in the closing ceremony at the Jiangsu Broadcasting Station’s Theater of Fine Arts. The art group scored high marks and received praises from leaders and fellow students alike.
Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, State Councilor Liu Yandong, Minister of Education Zhou Ji, as well as other leaders from Ministry of Culture and the Central Commission of China Communist Youth League attended the closing ceremony.
The National University Art Show is hosted every three years, and next time it will be hosted in 2012 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
