Peking University, Beijing, Oct 19, 2009: on the afternoon of Oct, 15, Academician Ouyang Ziyuan, famed as the “Father of Chang’e”, was invited to PKU to speak at the 4th of the serial lectures on popular science on campus, the “Space Exploration and Chang’e Project”, which was chaired by former University President Chen Jia’er.
Starting from looking back at the history of space exploration, Academician Ouyang introduced the development and its significance of space exploration to the audience. Besides that, he also introduced China’s short-term and long-term goals of the lunar and space exploration, explained its scientific goals and key technologies concerned, reviewed the planning and development of China’s Chang’e Project, and illustrated the scientific goal and loaded deployment of China’s first lunar exploration and the execution and achievements of lunar soft landing exploration in the second and third phases.
His speech, together with his detailed answers to various questions raised by the audience, helped the students have a better understanding of and full confidence in the lunar exploration project in China, and inspired them to pursue academic achievements and contribute to the social development of the nation.
