Kingsoft Corporation & Peking University Join Hands Promoting Software Copy Protection on Campus

Peking University, Nov 24th: On the morning of November 23, Peking University and Kingsoft Software Corporation started off a “Copy Protection on Campus” Program at PKU Boya International Conference Center. Professor Li Xiaoming, Assistant to the President of Peking University, and Mr. Ge Ke, Senior Vice-President of Kingsoft Software also President and CEO of Kingsoft Office Software, signed the contract on behalf of the partners. Government officials and researchers in the related field were invited.

Mr. Ge Ke addressed the meeting. He reviewed the history of Kingsoft Software Corporation and expressed the company’s wish to make returns to society as well as dedicate to educational causes through the “Copy Protection on Campus” program.  Ge Ke spoke highly of the good example PKU is setting for other education institutions by using legal and copyrighted domestic software and praised the effort made to protect intellectual property rights and while supporting domestic software.

Mr. Li Xiaoming pointed out that Peking University has long been promoting the application of modern information technology in higher education. The cooperation with Kingsoft Corporation was a great opportunity for a better information environment. The school hoped to popularize the use of software with legal authorization to better facilitate teaching, research and school management activities while ensuring the security of the school’s information network. The program was also initiated to strengthen the staff and students’ awareness of and respect for the intellectual property rights and to help students learn more about common software and excellent software products made in China. Li expressed his appreciation for KingSoft’s effort and dedication in pushing forward the legal copy use of software in China.

Mr. Luo Fangshu and Mr. Wang Yefei congratulated the joining hands of the two institutions to initiate the “Copy Protection on Campus” program on behalf of the Education Management Information Centre and the Copyrights Office of Beijing. They believed that the cooperation would improve the awareness of the intellectual property rights protection and promote the development of the domestic software industry.

According to the contract, a software product designed for PKU with no user number limits within the campus network was sold to PKU at a fairly low price. And PKU in turn would install the legally authorized WPS Office and Kingsoft Dictionary application in all the computers in Computer Center, labs, multimedia reading rooms and offices.
