Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 2nd, 2008:The "Energy and Climate Change Seminar", jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Royal Academy of Engineering and hosted by the Institute of Technology of Peking University, was held in the Hall of Sunshine of Yingjie Exchange Center at Peking University on Dec. 1st. It was the first highest-level seminar organized by the two academies.
Led by Lord Brown, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the delegation consisting of many well-known academicians and experts, participated in the seminar. Academician Du Xiangwan, vice president of Chinese Academy of Engineering and several other academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering attended the seminar. Academician Zhou Qifeng, President of PKU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech on behalf of PKU. Experts and guests from Tsinghua University, North China Electric Power University, Shell, China National Petroleum, as well as teachers and students from the Institute of Technology of PKU were also presented in the seminar.
Carbon capture technology, clean transportation technologies, renewable energy and nuclear energy were the main topics of the seminar. The presentation and discussion workshops, chaired by Lord Brown and Du Wanxiang respectiverly, involved more than ten special reports around the topics in depth, delivered by world-famous experts from the two academies, and a round-table discussion on energy security and climate change. Professor Lin Jianhua, executive vice president of PKU also met with Lord Brown and other VIPs from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
