Peking University, September 15, 2020: On September 14, Peking University welcomed the 2020 cohort of graduate students. Staff and volunteers already gathered in the early morning to wait for the arrival of newcomers.
Security personnel teams checked health codes from every student, collected nucleic acid test results from students, identified their campus cards, and measured each person’s body temperature before letting them enter. Strict and orderly procedures enable PKU to become a safe haven for all members of PKU.
Once students arrived at the university, numerous campus service booths, for example baggage claim areas, were set up to facilitate newcomers. Various venues on the campus were decorated with banners at their front doors to welcome newcomers. The new graduate students completed the registration in their own schools or departments.
Hao Ping, president of Peking University, visited newcomers and staff, interacting with the new graduate students and expressing his warm welcome.
In 2020, the total number of new graduate students enrolled in Peking University is 9301, including 6333 master’s students and 2968 Ph.D. candidates. Among these newcomers, 8,541 students come from the Chinese mainland, 160 students are from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 600 are international students.
