Peking University, Beijing, Jun. 5, 2008: Duncan Rice, President of University of Aberdeen, visited Peking University (PKU) on May 30, and had a meeting with Xu Zhihong, President of PKU, and Zhu Zuoyan, Professor of School of Life Sciences of PKU, Academician of Chinese Academy of Science and Honorary Doctor of University of Aberdeen as well.
“The campus of Peking University is the most beautiful one in my visited universities.” President Duncan Rice commented his first visit to PKU while his second visit to China. In the conversation, the two sides introduced the basic situations briefly at first. Then, they discussed the teaching, talent training and education in the fields of humanities, nature and social in light of their experiences. Duncan Rice also consulted the experiences about school management from President Xu Zhihong. When talked about the communication and cooperation between the two universities, the two presidents all expressed the desire to promote the communication in future. In the last, President Duncan Rice said: “We open the door for Chinese students, and hope more and more Chinese students, especially PKU students, to study and do research in University of Aberdeen.”
The University of Aberdeen founded in 1495 is one of the oldest universities in the UK, in Old Aberdeen, Scotland, and a world-renowned centre for teaching and research. There are 14,000 students including abroad students from about 120 countries, 16 percent of whom are graduate students. The university has developed four Nobel winners in prizes of chemistry, physics, medicine and peace.
