DEC . 26 2017
Peking University, Dec. 26, 2017: On December 12, JAMA (IF 44.105) published the findings of the randomized clinical trial (RCT) “Pregnancy Outcome Study in Enthyroid Women with Thyroid Autoimmunity after Levothyroxine (POSTAL)”. The study was conducted by the interdisciplinary research team formed by the Endocrinology and Metabolism Department, the Reproductive Medicine Center, and the Research Center for Clinical Epidemiology from Peking University Third Hospital (PKUTH). The research has been up to now the RCT with the biggest sample among the internationally reported clinical trials in the field of thyroid autoimmunity and the pregnancy outcome of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). The research has clinical implications for the treatment of infertility in women tested positive for TPOAb and provides important reference to the revision of relevant treatment guidance.

Noteworthily, the conclusions may not apply to the infertility patients with a high risk of miscarriage because the research excluded patients with a history of repeated miscarriages.

The POSTAL lasted four and a half years from starting to recruit the randomized sample in September 2012 to finishing the last interview with subjects in March 2017. The study attained explicit conclusions and was acknowledged by the international academia, for it was supported by PKUTH’s advantage disciplines and advanced research teams and relied on the reasonable top-level design and the rigorous scientific style of work.

The publication of POSTAL in JAMA, the international top journal in the field of clinical medicine, indicates that PKUTH has made a new step forward in clinical trials and its disciplinary group building and planning is a correct disciplinary development strategy.
