Russian Version of A History of Chinese Civilization in Progress
Peking University, Oct. 22, 2010: The cooperation memorandum for the Russian version of A History of Chinese Civilization was signed at Peking University on Oct. 18, 2010. Prof. Liu Wei, Vice President of Peking University, Prof. Yuan Xingpei, Director of PKU's Academy of Chinese Studies, Academician Titarenko from Russian Academy of Sciences, and Mr. Wang Mingzhou, President of PKU Press attended the signing ceremony.
Prof. Liu gave a warm welcome to Academician Titarenko, an old friend of China and PKU, and reviewed the long history of cultural exchange between China and Russia. Liu said that PKU had always kept the tradition of promoting Chinese culture and passing down the legacy of Chinese civilization, and the Russian version of A History of Chinese Civilization, as the most up-to-date achievement of such historical legacy would become a model of academic translation and cultural exchange.
Prof. Yuan, Editor-in-Chief of A History of Chinese Civilization, Acamician Titarenko who is in charge of the translation work, and Mr. Wang all gave speeches with good wishes for the cooperation.
Academician Titarenko had been studying at PKU from 1957 to 1959 as a student of Prof. Feng Youlan. He is one of the professors invited to the Cai Yuanpei Lectures, and a leading figure in the field of Chinese studies in Russia and has greatly contributed to the spread of Chinese culture in Russia.
