Reciprocal Reception Held for PKU’s 112th Anniversary

Peking University, Beijing, May 17, 2010: On the 112th anniversary of Peking University, a reciprocal reception with the theme “The Economic Growth of China and the Macro-Control Policy” was held on the night of May 11, to show gratitude towards the social support for the construction and growth Peking University has been receiving. Present were more than 200 people from home and abroad, including President Zhou Qifeng, Wu Pan, Zhang Guoyou, Liu Wei and other school leaders as well as leaders from PKU’s eighteen schools and departments.



The event commenced with enthusiasm, warmth and joy, addressed first by President Zhou Qifeng. President Zhou expressed great gratitude and respect for all those who have long supported the development of Peking University on behalf of the teachers and students of PKU, and reported to the guests present about what Peking University has achieved in education and scientific research in recent years, focusing on the achievements in the past year. He said emotionally, “Today, we gathered for the 112th anniversary of Peking University. In these 112 years, Peking University has been through the decline of the Qing Dynasty, civil unrest and outside invasion as well as the ceaseless self-improvement during the period of the Republic of China, the pride and elation of new China and its tortuous way of development. Time has also witnessed China developing rapidly and surpassing by steps in an era of globalization after the reform and opening-up. In whatever historical period, Peking University always possesses a plain aspiration, that is, to make the best of our ideology, scientific researches and talents to build a more prosperous, democratic, civilized and harmonious country and a more beautiful human world.” He sincerely hoped to make joint efforts with all the guests present concerned with the development of education, the progress of China and the future of human kinds to push Peking University and China forward, making greater contribution for the development and prosperity of human kind.



Next, Prof. Liu Wei, dean of the School of Economics, delivered a lecture on “The Economic Growth of China and the Macro-Control Policy”, sharing the recent economic situation in China after the global economic crisis and analyzing the macro-control policy that the Chinese government has taken. Replete with data, information and sense of humor, his lecture brought the house down and was highly spoken of. The party was successfully concluded by a song called “Country” performed by the student chorus of Peking University.
