Vietnamese First Lady visits PKU and meets with Vietnamese Major Students

Peking University, May 21st, 2017: On May 12th, Madam Nguyen Thi Hien, the First Lady of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, had a meeting in Lin Huxuan with officials of PKU, faculties of SFL (School of Foreign Languages), students majoring in Vietnamese Language, and representatives of Vietnamese students.

Meeting with Hao Ping
Hao Ping, Chairman of the PKU Council, extended his warm welcome towards Madam Nguyen and her delegation. He briefly introduced PKU to Nguyen, and expressed his sincere hope of further communications between Vietnam and China in education.
In response, Nguyen showed her gratitude to the warm reception and considerate arrangement of PKU. She said that PKU was a world first-class university, and Vietnamese students ought to devote more efforts to come and study in PKU.
After the meeting, Hao presented to Nguyen a photo album of PKU and a book written by Zhao Yulan, a retired professor of Vietnamese Language. Later on, all attendees took a picture together.
Afterwards, Nguyen had a symposium with Vietnamese students and teachers and students of Vietnamese Language. The symposium was hosted by Xian Manxue, director of Southeast Asian Language. Faculties and officials of PKU stated their opinions and thoughts about the communication between Chinese and Vietnamese universities and looked forward to more chances and interactions. Student representatives shared their experience of learning Chinese and Vietnamese.

At the end of the symposium, Nguyen gave high praise for PKU’s cultivation of competent students of Vietnamese and its great contribution to the friendship and communication of China and Vietnam. She sincerely wished that student majoring in Vietnamese Language can be the messenger to push forward the cultural communication between the two countries.
After the symposium, Madam Nguyen toured around PKU campus with her delegation. She enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Weiming Lake, and visited the Vietnamese collection in PKU library. She gave great credit and praise to the achievements on the cultivation of competent people made by PKU.
