Peking University, Apr. 18, 2014: The Eleventh Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot took place in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) from March 31st to April 6th. PKU Law School students teamed up to participate in the moot on behalf of PKU, and finally won the Pan Asian Award for Asian Division.

The contestants of the eleventh moot were students from more than eighty law schools all over the world, including law schools of Harvard University, Taiwan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc. They played the role of applicants and respondents of arbitration cases in the whole process of arbitration, with English as working language. More than 40 arbitrators and world-famous lawyers including eight foreign lawyers and arbitrators sat in as judges of the moot.

Under the organization of the moot court training camp of Youth League Committee of PKU Law School, the eight contestants dedicated themselves to the preparation of the moot since September 2013, undertaking harsh training of legal writing and debate. They also had the full backing of the PKU Law School teacher Yi Ping and Beijing Fangda Law Firm, who made a great contribution to the historical breakthrough of PKU in the moot.

PKU varsity team beat the teams of other well-known law schools in succession, and advanced to the Pan Asian Final as the winner of the round robin. With their professional skills, excellent performance, good teamwork and calmness under pressure, they were crowned champions ultimately.

PKU Law School has long attached great significance to practical teaching projects represented by moot court contests. Through the participation in these international moot court contests, law school students can expand their international vision. Furthermore, the exchange and cooperation with world-class law schools can be strengthened, which can promote the internationalization of PKU Law School.

Background Info

In honor of the late famous jurist in international commercial law Mr.Willem C. Vis, Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is held for law schools all over the world. It has become the top contest in the teaching and research area of international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution. The moot is intended to encourage students to learn the legislation of international commercial law and to solve international commercial disputes via arbitration.
