PKU-Canada to cooperate on spinal cord injury

Peking University, April. 20, 2014: Agreements on spinal cord injury were signed between Peking University Third Hospital and two Canadian organizations, Accreditation Canada International (ACI) and Rick Hansen Institute (RHI), in Beijing on April 16, 2014. 

 
This cooperation is an extension of the agreement signed in 2011 between Peking University Third Hospital and RHI.


It is dedicated to improve the therapeutic effect for spinal cord injury patients by identifying, formulating, verifying and promoting the transformation of evidence-based medicine and best practical methods.

The focus of the cooperation is to reduce occurrence and severity of permanent paralysis caused by spinal cord injury, to boost rehabilitation of physical function after injury and to decrease the occurrence and severity of complications caused by spinal cord injury.

The three sides will also jointly design plan to put the internationally-recognized ACI standard into effect. That standard lay emphasize on medical care for spinal cord injury during the acute stage and rehabilitation stage.

Background Info:
Rehabilitation of spinal cord injury caused by nature disasters, traffic accidents or athletic injury is a difficult problem in the world. Department of Orthopedics and Department of Rehabilitation in Peking University Third Hospital are both included in National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Projects. This hospital is a preferred choice for the disable’s rehabilitation in China.
