[Beijing Forum 2016] “Mutual Trust, Cooperation, Sharing”: 13th Session of Beijing Forum inaugurated

 Peking University, Nov.5, 2016: On the morning of November 4, the Opening Ceremony of Beijing Forum 2016 was held in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. This year marks the 13th anniversary of the Beijing Forum. Over 300 distinguished scholars, well-known politicians and other prominent people of all circles joyfully gathered together for this international academic exchange.

 
Chairman of Peking University Council, Zhu Shanlu presided over the ceremony. When addressing the ceremony, Professor Zhu accorded a hearty welcome to all the honored guests. Then he said thanks to the continuous support of Chinese government, the United Nations, and the international academia, Beijing Forum has played an increasingly positive and productive role in the open communication of diverse human civilizations in the past 12 years. And Beijing Forum 2016 will keep moving forward to help promote “mutual trust, cooperation and sharing” among different civilizations in pursuit of the harmonious future development of human society.

In addition, Zhu read out a congratulatory letter from Yan Junqi, vice-chairman of the standing committee of the National People’s Congress. In Yan’s letter, she made a high appraisal of Beijing Forum for its contributions to the international communication and called for deeper and wider dialogue between civilizations so that they can learn from each other in mutual emulation.

Hao Ping, vice minister of Education, P.R. China and director of China National Commission for UNESCO attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Hao illustrated the underlying meaning of this year’s subject terms: mutual trust, cooperation and sharing. And he advocated a further development of inter-governmental conversation of education to enhance mutual trust and cooperation among different civilizations.
  
Mr. IqbalRiza, Special advisor to the Secretary General then addressed a speech and brought the video message from H.E. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations. Mr. Ban mentioned the passage of the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” to indicate a potential global collaboration for a “greener and greater world”. And Beijing Forum can also provide an effective platform for the promotion of mutual trust, cooperation and sharing in present deeply troubled time.
 
Later, Mr. Shaukat Aziz, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Chen Tae-won, chairman of SK groupgave their speeches. They pointed out the ever changing and conflicting situations of the present-day world, which pose numerous challenges and threats to the harmony and prosperity of human society. Both of them emphasize the significance of international dialogue, mutual trust, collaboration and sharing in the construction of a harmonious and prosperous world.
  
At the end of the ceremony, PKU President Lin Jianhua acknowledged the participants and supporters of Beijing Forum and wished it a great success.He encourage the scholars to make best of the opportunities that Beijing Forum could offer, exchange their ideas, share experiences, and propose valuable advice to make contributions to the development of human civilization. Lin also promised that Peking University would continue efforts to makeBeijing Forum become a better and sustainable platform for global exchange and cooperation.
 
Beijing Forum 2016 is scheduled to be held on November 4th-6th, 2016 in Beijing, with the theme of “The Harmony of Civilization and Prosperity for All—Mutual Trust, Cooperation, Sharing" embracing 7 panel sessions and astudent panel.
