Peking University Summer School International 2016 concluded
Aug 25, 2016
Peking University, Aug. 25, 2016: From July 3-29, 2016, Peking University successfully hosted hundreds of students from all corners of the globe to participate in the annual Peking University Summer School International (PKUSSI). Students from over 30 countries and regions came together to study a variety of courses, ranging from Classical Chinese Poetry to Asia-Pacific Security, which were taught by professors from multiple institutions including PKU, Yale, and Cornell.

Over the period of the four-week program, the PKUSSI students were able to experience life in Beijing while studying courses concerning China and East Asia. Some of the courses also offer hands-on experiences, such as practicing Tai Chi, exploring museums and cultural heritage sites in Beijing. The program organized a number of cultural activities and sightseeing trips for PKUSSI students. Trips to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and the 798 Art District allowed students to see distinctive representations of Chinese historical sights and modern innovative art. The Home Party Night where students played mahjong and made dumplings also gave students a chance to learn more about Chinese festivals and parties. The Concert of Traditional Chinese instruments was especially popular. Peking University ensembles, dance and Kung Fu clubs welcomed the overseas guests. The Chinese Expert lecture series organized by the PKU Office of International Relations gave PKU’s international students and faculty the opportunity to hear from distinguished professors’ thoughts on subjects relating to China.

The PKU Summer School International provides an excellent opportunity for international students to experience the vibrant city of Beijing and the academic life at Peking University, while learning from experienced professors and improving their understanding of China. The 2016 cohort certainly approached this opportunity with enthusiasm, and we hope to see some of them back at Peking University in the future.
