President of Durham University visits PKU

Peking University, May 22, 2016: On May 12th, President of Durham University Stuart Corbridge visited Peking University. PKU President Lin Jianhua and vice President Li Yansong met the guests at Linhuxuan.

Peking University and Durham University have always been in close cooperation. Frequent student exchange programs drew students’ attention from both sides. In recent years, the amount of students supported by exchange programs have been growing steadily, which went hand in hand with students’ needs. The “2+2 Joint Training Program” in terms of chemistry has been receiving positive responses.

President Corbridge affirmed the unforgettable experience of studying aboard in terms of cultural communication and ideas exchange. He warmly welcomed Chinese students, especially PKU students, to study in Durham University, which he believed would be invigorated.

President Lin Jianhua deemed broadening students’ international horizon through inter-school communications as a significant task of the university. Peking University has been devoted to seeking the similarity and difference between Chinese and Western education. It also learned a lot from Western education: the promotion of collegiate system and liberal education are two cases in point.

With regard to reinforcement of cooperation and communication, both sides hoped to cooperate on national and regional research, i.e. exchanging scholars or further Joint Postdoctoral Program. Meanwhile, the excellent research team of Durham University can exert its power, carrying out cooperation in terms of geology research.
