PKU-EXON Academic Forum held

Peking University April 24, 2016:On April 15, the two-day PKU-EXON Academic Forum was held atthe new building of the School of Foreign Languages at Peking University.More than 30 academics across 5 languages (English, French, German, Russian, Arabic) were gathering together to explore topics concerningthe national identity in literature and history.
 
On the opening ceremony, Li Yansong, vice president of PKU and Ning QI, dean of SFL firstly expressed warm welcome to all the guests presented and sincere wish for strengthening the academic exchanges and cooperation between PKU and EXON. Then, professors from both sides took turns to deliver speeches emphasizing the key role of national identity in literature.
 
The academic forum included a keynote speechand two group discussions. On the afternoon of April 14th, Professor Dong Qiang and Professor Corinna Wagner, on behalf of their ownuniversity, made keynote speeches respectively. Professor Dong stressed the importance of defending the cultural identity and listening to various voices in the world characterized by cultural diversity. Professor Wagner, focusing on “ the New Environment: Epidemic, City and Aesthetics” offered a new insight into the essence of art and literature with regard to the relationship between city, environment and art.
 
In the group discussion section, the participants switched and shared their opinions on the previous presentations and furthertouched upon the hope for strengtheningfuturecooperation between teachers and students through exchange programs.
 
At the closing ceremony, each language group reported the results of their discussions to the guests presented. The guests listened carefully and further discussed about the publication of the achievements of this academic forum and the future cooperation as well. All agreed that scholars from two countries could probe deeper into literature and history together in the form of forum to push forward the development of academic study and communication.
