The 7th Peking University Summer School International kicks off

Peking University, July 14, 2015: On July 8, the opening ceremony of the 7th PKU Summer School International was held at Luce Pavilion, Weiming Lake. Professor Gao Song, vice president and provost of Peking University, gave a speech to welcome international students who are attending the 2015 summer school. He said that the program provides a precious opportunity to international students to explore China and know about Chinese culture.

 
Roger T. Ames, professor of the University of Hawaii, delivered a speech on behalf of faculties of the Summer School International. As a prestigious scholar of Chinese philosophy, professor Ames has been teaching at the PKU Summer School International for six years. He agreed upon professor Gao’s opinion and encouraged students to apply what they learn from the summer school to their future careers.
 
PKU Summer School International started in 2009 and has become part and parcelof educational and cultural communication with international students. This year, 25 courses lectured in English are available on topics including Chinese culture, history, philosophy, economy, politics, international relations, environment and physical education. The 212 international students come from 25 countries and regions and the member universities include Yale University, University of California, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, University of Copenhagen, Free University of Berlin, University of Amsterdam and National University of Singapore.
 
At PKU Summer School International, overseas and Chinese students have classes together. Apart from regular courses, Chinese learning courses are provided as well as trips on and off campus to help overseas students get used to living in China and learn Chinese society and culture.
