Thai Princess Sirindhorn Visits PKU

Peking University, April. 6, 2015: On April 4, Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited Peking University. This visit is for the purpose of celebrating Her Royal Highness’s 60th birthday and commemorating 40th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations.

 

 

 

 

 

In the morning, H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn declared open the seminar on Thai Studies in China in the Moonlight Hall, Yingjie Exchange Center.

 

 

 

 

Prof. Ning Qi from School of Foreign Languages delivered her welcome speech first. She emphasized the significance of this seminar on such auspicious occasion since the academia always plays an indispensable role in the cultural exchanges between China and Thailand. She also expressed gratitude to H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn for her support and help in establishing research institutions of Thai studies in PKU.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PKU Vice President Li Yansong noted then in his speech that the exchanges of the two countries have expanded to such areas as politics, economy, society, technology and tourism. In terms of Thai studies, PKU has carried out several key research already. And this seminar will focus on the latest and the future development of Thai studies in China, as well as the problems that need to be solved.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally, H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn gave her opening remarks to the seminar. She pointed out that the economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges have facilitated the collaboration between the two countries in various fields, such as language, arts, architecture and music. Thailand have been integrating Chinese elements into its own culture. Meanwhile, the win-win relationship is conducive to both language teaching and academic research. H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn concluded by wishing a sound development of China-Thailand relations and a complete success of the seminar.

 

 

In the afternoon, H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn visited School of Chinese as a Second Language and Zhongguanyuan Global Village.
