School of Archaeology turns 60

Peking University, Apr. 21, 2012: Ninety years ago, Peking University (PKU) archeological research first got started. Thirty years later, PKU established its School of Archaeology and Museology. To commemorate all these passing years, PKU School of Archaeology held a celebration ceremony on April 28th, 2012.

The celebration took place in PKU Hall. More than 1000 concerning people from around the world attended it, among whom were former students of PKU Archaeological School and those making efforts for its archaeological programs.

 

Li Xiaojie, vice president of State Administration of Cultural Heritage delivered his speech first. He congratulated School of Archeology on its sixtieth anniversary and approved of its contributions to Chinese archaeological cause.


On behalf of Peking University, PKU Council Chairman Zhu Shanlu pointed out that the development of PKU archaeology was the result of the efforts of several generations, and the responsibility now fell on the shoulders of the present professors and teachers.

PKU School of Archaeology has always been in good contact with local archaeological institutes in different provinces as well as other archaeological colleges, which had sent their representatives along with congratulatory messages to the ceremony.
