Jun 01, 2013

Peking University, May 14, 2013: To welcome the opening ceremony of the 9th China (Beijing) International Garden Expo, the 2013 Beijing International Long Walk Competition was held in Beijing Garden Expo Park on May 5. Over 70 volunteers from Peking University (PKU) took part in this activity.

The theme “i Life, i Green, i Garden Expo” is a combination of internationalization and localization, “i” sharing the same pronunciation with the word “love” in Chinese. Participants formed five squares, respectively representing “Youth,” “Confidence,” “Voluntary,” “Green,” and “Beautiful Garden Expo.”

Along with the beating of the nine drums symbolizing the 9th China (Beijing) International Garden Expo, PKU volunteers, as members of the “Confidence” square, started their 10km long walk. They headed northward from the Main Park, passed the Jinxiu Valley and Beijing Park, and reached the Chinese Garden Museum. Then turning south, they walked past the Garden Expo Lake, Xi’an Park, Chinese Rose Garden, all the way back to the Main Park.

“It is really a happy journey. Through this activity, I not only got exercised but also caught a glimpse of the structure of the Garden Expo in advance. I’d like to do some voluntary work for the following Garden Expo,” said Wen Qijun, a volunteer from the School of Foreign Languages.

The 9th China (Beijing) International Garden Expo Opening Ceremony will be held on May 18, 2013. 400 PKU students are ready for volunteering.
