Happy Tibetan New Year!

Peking University, Feb. 27, 2012: The Tibetan New year, also known as Losar, is the most important festival for Tibetans. Right before the coming of the “water dragon new year” in Tibetan calendar, PKU Office of Student Affairs organized a big event on Feb 20, bringing over 30 Tibetan students to get together and celebrate their new year.

Zha Jing, vice-president of Office of Student Affairs, said that Peking university has always respected the customs of minority students and attached great importance on their development in PKU. For Tibetan students, PKU has given constant care and attention throughout the years. Different forms of activities were organized to celebrate the Tibetan New Year for years to bring warmth to those who are not able to come back home to reunite with their families.

Deeply immersed in the festival atmosphere, the students showed their talent for singing and dancing and gave excellent performance. The teachers later joined them and sung with the students together, expressing their love to the beautiful Tibet and to our motherland. The students and teachers made toasts and exchanged their sweet wishes to each other with joy.

 

After the banquet, students made “Gutu” on their own at Xuewu Dining Hall,praying for an peaceful, lucky and healthy oncoming year.
